to locating. christopher jordan dorner is his name. ex-navy reservist, ex-lapd officer with a grudge against the force. if you see him, do not approach him. get some place safe and contact authorities. the breaking news, police have located his burned out truck near big bear lake, which is about 100 miles east of los angeles. they have not, however, located dorner himself. just moments ago, we learned the fbi went to the suspect's home in las vegas. we don't yet know, however, what if anything, they discovered. meantime, back at big bear lake in california, fresh tracks were spotted nearby. however, police say they do not lead to the suspect. they are doing door to door. checkpoints are up on local roads. they've barred all choppers from the air space. christopher dorner is not only armed, dangerous and vowing revenge on his former fellow officers but also people close to them. in a strange and chilling online manifesto allegedly written by dorner he says, quote, i never had the opportunity to have a familiarly of my own. i'm terminating yours. as for his capabilities, a local police chief h

discharged from the u.s. navy reserve earlier this year. in fact, just a short time ago, after serving in several overseas jobs. basically as a security officer. he was a lieutenant. he had weapons training in the navy. but not a commando, not a navy s.e.a.l., this was basic security work. nonetheless, he had two awards critically. the rifle marksman ribbon, and the pistol expert medal. this meant he had some qualifications in shooting at some expert level at particular distances or ranges. i think, though, very clear we should also understand that he had expertise through his service as a police officer. many people, many police officers serve in the military reserve, and they have a lot of weapons expertise due to all of that. still, very concerning, obviously, because of his background. >> were you able to learn anything about did the military have any information on his mental health? >> reporter: well, this would be a matter of privacy concerns. but at the moment, they wouldn't publicly release that. at the moment, very preliminary, there is no indication of that, because he was h

's a former l.a. police officer and u.s. navy reservist. police say they believe dorner is responsible for killing monica quan, the daughter of a retired lapd captain. >> she had such a big heart. why take her away from all of us? >> reporter: the 28-year-old beloved college basketball coach was gunned down sunday, along with her fiancee, keith lawrence, while they were sitting in his car. >> a particular interest at this point in the investigation, is a multipage manifesto, in which the suspect has implicated himself. >> reporter: the document, allegedly posted by dorner on an internet message board this week, blames retired lapd captain randy quan and other officers for getting him fired from the department. the manifesto claims that dorner was fired for repeated abuses. it names a dozen officers, threatening to find officers' homes, their spouses' workplaces and children's schools. one posting reads, i never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, dorner writes. i'm terminating yours. >> dorner's whereabouts are currently unknown. we're considering him armed and dangerous. >

back in september of 2008 for misconduct and making false statements. he is also a former navy reservist and trained sniper who was let go because of misconduct also. he is a accused of killing monica quan and her fiance. quan is the daughter of retired former police captain and later attorney randall quan. he represented the suspect in a hearing on his misconduct but he fired any way. in a manifesto online he blamed quan for his firing. that also detailed he would target lapd officers and their families and that may have led to monica and her fiance being killed. he was reportedly seen in san diego where he tried to steal a boat from an elderly man but was unsuccessful and this morning a man found his bag and wallet with his identification near the airport. this morning two lapd officers first confronted him at the newton division in riverside. one officer was grazed by a bullet and will be okay but later two officers were ambushed. he opened fire, one of them is dead, another is in critical condition. >> extremely tense. obviously we call this a manhunt. we are looking at al
